In the framework of the development programme, starting from the beginning of 2017 JSC “Sea Port of St.Petersburg” (SPSP) upgraded 16% of all cargo handling fleet, 53 km of engineering networks and over 40 thousand sq.meters of operational and storage areas. To achieve this purpose, the company invested 470 million RUR.

Over 70% of funds were invested in purchase of machinery. In particular, the company purchased forklift trucks and tractors for handling of metal, reach stackers and auxiliary equipment for operations of SPSP’s container services. New machines are very helpful for efficient handling of 45’, 40’ and 20’ dry containers with cargoes of all classes of hazard (excluding oil products) and reefer containers, as well as for all the other related services. Certain amounts were spent for purchase of specialized attachments for gantry cranes.

Around 17% were invested in replacement of engineering networks and modernization of power facilities to improve energy efficiency at the port. Within the same period the company upgraded water disposal facilities and entry pass system.

The expenses for refurbishment of operational area amounted to ca. 13%. For example, two temporary storage warehouses were put into operation on the 2nd cargo area of the port – for pellets and for grain; the capacity of each is up to 10 thousand tonnes.

New open storage area for general cargoes was put into operation.  Its surface is strong enough to withstand the load of up to 20 tonnes per sq.meter and to accommodate high-volume and heavy-weight cargoes. Also, SPSP repaired access roads and railways to/from this area and the turnout switches were replaced.
