In the reporting period, transshipment of oil cargo grew by 11% to 6.1 million tonnes. The general growth was mainly driven by Tuapse Sea Commercial Port and Taganrog Sea Commercial Port. Handling of dry cargo slightly decreased, by 2%, to 30.9 million tonnes with the reduction of ferrous metal transshipment via the terminals of Saint-Petersburg and Tuapse as well as coal transshipment via Ust-Luga terminal. That should be attributed to the market changes and scheduled repair of production facilities undertaken by ship owners.

Export/import ratio remained at the level of 2018 - 85%/14% with the share of short-sea traffic also remaining the same (1%).

Containerized cargo transshipment grew by 4.6%, year-on-year, to 792,000 TEUs. Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg run by T.A.Management has retained its leadership among Russian operators. In 2019, the company handled 758,610 TEUs having demonstrated a 5.1-pct growth versus the result of 2018.

Transshipment of dry bulk and loose cargo by all companies climbed by 3% to 12.6 million tonnes. In particular, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg raised ore handling by 43% to 470,000 tonnes and transshipment of mineral fertilizers – 2.2 times to 237,000 tonnes while Tuapse Sea Commercial Port increased coal handling by 38.2% to 3.6 million tonnes.

The segment of general cargo saw a decrease of 16.2% to 8.3 million tonnes due to the reduction of metal exports amid the changes in the global market.
