In the I quarter of 2012 the turnover of JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (“SP of SPb”) amounted to  2.15 mln. tons, which exceeds by 42% the indicator of the previous year.

 

Within the period from January to March of 2012 handling volumes of general cargoes increased by 36% – up to 1.61 mln. tons, handling volumes of loose and bulk cargoes increased 5 times – up to 315 thousand tons. Handling volumes of ro-ro cargoes reduced by 17% and amounted to 224 thousand tons. And handling volumes of cars increased by 35% and amounted to 11 378 units.

 

Export share in the structure of the turnover of the company increased by 31% – up to 1.64 mln. tons,
import share decreased by 17% and amounted to 506 thousand tons.

 

Increase of the turnover in the I quarter of 2012 was caused by positive market situation in combination with favorable ice conditions within winter period. In particular, export shipments of metals increased by  51% up to 1.39 mln. tons, including non-ferrous metals by 42% – up to 467 thousand tons, ferrous metals  – by 40%, up to 747 thousand tons. Due to attraction of new clients handling volumes of scrap metals increased more than thrice in comparison with the I quarter of 2011.

 

Growth of production indicators of “SP of SPb” was also stimulated by the programme on modernization of infrastructure, equipment and technological process of cargo handling implemented in the company.

In 2011 the turnover of JSC  “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” amounted to 7.4 mln. tons of cargoes. 319 mln. rubles were transferred for the modernization of the cargo terminals and infrastructure of  “SP of SPb”.
