In the 1st quarter of 2014 the turnover of OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (“SP SPb”) amounted to 4.1 mln. tons, which is by 4% more than within the same period of the last year.

Handling volumes of general cargoes increased by 6% up to 3.1 mln. tons, handling volumes of loose and bulk cargoes preserved at the same level as during the first six months of 2013 – about 1 mln. tons.

The growth of turnover of the company was caused by the gradual recovery of the demand at the merchandise market, in particular, for ferrous metals, due to the decrease of stock reserves of the consumers. Hence handling volumes of ferrous metals of the main shippers of the company increased by 14% up to 1.2 mln. tons. Handling volumes of non-ferrous metals (aluminum) decreased by 38% to 0.6 mln. tons also due to the market factors.

Handling of vehicles, main part of which import cars, also showed negative dynamics. Within the reporting period its volumes decreased by 35% to 15 975 units which reflects general tendencies of the Russian car market.

Handling volumes of export cargoes, forming the main part of the cargo flow increased by 14% up to 3.4 mln. tons, import share decreased by 21% to 0.7 mln. tons. Within the turnover structure of the port export amounted to 82.5%, import – 17.5%.
