The Governor of Murmansk region, Yury Evdokimov proposes to give the status of Special Economic Zones to all Russian ports. The governor stated this in his speech delivered to the journalists on Wednesday in Mumansk (“SeverInfo” RIA News). “I don’t consider it correct, when we organize a bid for the right to have status of free port economic zone. We have only 5-6 big import-oriented ports and we shouldn’t create competition in our country. We should compete with our neighbors abroad,” -emphasized the governor. The governor mentioned that the regional administration addressed the government with this proposal. He also added that “all our ports Novorossiisk, Murmansk, Saint-Petersburg and Nahodka should be given such status.” “If other opinion is to be supported we will fall behind. We will not only preserve the degree of lagging behind such ports as Kirkenes, Narvik (Norway), but will even increase the gap. This shouldn’t be allowed,”-stated Evdokimov.
