During nine months of 2008 the stevedoring companies of the group of JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” handled 8.5 mln. tons of cargoes. This is by 8% less than in the same period of the last year.

In the structure of the turnover the general cargoes prevailed (5.1 mln. tons), including metals (3.5 mln. tons), loose and bulk cargoes (3.3 mln. tons), among which the coal prevailed (1.6 mln. tons).

“First Stevedoring Company” handled 4.1  mln. tons, having increased the similar figures of the last year by 5%; “Second Stevedoring Company” handled -1.2 mln. tons (-21%); “Fourth Stevedoring Company” handled 3.0 mln. tons. (-8%).  Within five incomplete months of car handling operations “Third Stevedoring company” handled 30 thousand cars.

The reduction of the cargo handling volumes is caused by the decay of the business activity of cargo shippers due to the decrease of the demand for the products and late delivery of the railcars for loading of the coal.
