In 2008 the group of companies “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” transferred more than 850 mln. rubles for the implementation of port infrastructure development programme.

In May of 2008 the first stage of car terminal was set into operation on the territory of Third Stevedoring Company (annual capacity - 80 thousand cars). Constructed on the basis of the former export timber handling facilities this terminal will make it possible to transfer to Saint-Petersburg a significant part of cargo traffic now handled by the Finnish ports and as a consequence it will reduce the pressure on truck entry points at the Russian-Finnish Border. In 2008  130 mln. rubles were transferred for it’s construction. Within 8 months of the last year 42 thousand cars were handled.

Over 180 mln. rubles were transferred for design works, construction and purchase of the equipment required for the first stage of ro-ro terminal on the territory of First Stevedoring Company. The construction of the terminal (annual capacity – 1 mln. tons) on the place of former covered warehouses was completed in January of 2009. Terminal capacities allow for handling of all types of ro-ro cargoes and simultaneous storage of 850 units of various equipment.

In 2008 pre-design works for refrigerated terminal on the territory of First Stevedoring Company were carried out. The construction of the terminal with the annual capacity of 1.5 mln. tons of reefer cargoes will make it possible to decrease the expenses of the key importers of foodstuffs in Saint-Petersburg and North-Western part of Russia. New reefer capacities (maintaining certain temperatures inside (-28C-+14C)) will secure safety of quality of foodstuffs and its compliance with the European sanitary norms. The company plans to start the design works for this terminal in third quarter of 2009.

In 2008 the company transferred over 400 mln. rubles for the design works of the first stage of container terminal on the territory of Fourth Stevedoring Company carried out by the leading Russian and European institutes and for the purchase of technological equipment. The first stage of the terminal with the annual capacity of 350 thousand TEUs is being created on the territory where outdated handling facilities for coal, alumina silica, scrap metal and timber were situated. This part of the terminal will handle export and import containers as well as reefer containers. Projected date when the first stage is to be set into operation is the end of 2009.

The group of the companies invested 100 mln. rubles into the reconstruction of the warehouses and covered storage areas for general cargoes on the First and Second cargo areas of the port.

Over 20 mln. rubles were invested in implementation of the programme on transfer of the cargo flows from the areas of the Greater port of  SPb to the main roads which will help  to decrease the congestion of the roads adjacent to the port by the heavy trucks. New dispatching office for the trucks has been opened, pre-design works for the reconstruction of the checkpoints: “Gapsalskiye gates” and on Dvinskaya street have been completed.
