On January 27 65-th anniversary of lifting the Nazi siege of Leningrad is celebrated. As commemoration of this event welfare support will be provided for 15 veterans of the port who outlived the siege of Leningrad and were awarded by the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” and for 156 veterans who were awarded by the badge “Resident of Sieged Leningrad”.
The date of lifting the siege – is a memorable date for JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (the successor of Leningrad Commercial Sea Port). During 900 days of siege the operations in the port never stopped – dockers were handling armaments, valuable equipment, the port provided electric power for the defense enterprises. The port workers participated actively in the process of construction of the legendary “Road of Life” and railway road along the ice of the Ladoga lake.
