On November 16, 2015, OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (SP SPb) and traders of “RUSAL” Group signed the long-term contract for handling of 7.5 mln tons of aluminium and 3.5 mln tons of alumina – raw material for production of aluminium. The contract was signed for 5 years, till the end of 2020.

According to the contract’s terms, the company is planning to handle 1.5 mln tons of export aluminium per year. In inbound traffic heading to RUSAL’s aluminium smelters in Russia, SP SPb will handle no less than 0.75 mln tons of alumina per year arriving from the foreign RUSAL’s capacities located in Africa and Northern Europe.

This contract will ensure “one-stop” handling of the cargo in the North-Western region, which means that the whole aluminium and alumina traffic will be handled in the sea port of Saint-Petersburg.

Conclusion of the new long-term contract between RUSAL Group and SP SPb is the evidence of the longstanding and mutually beneficial cooperation of the companies. For the last ten years through this partnership SP SPb has ensured handling of over 1 mln tons of export aluminium heading to European and American buyers, and has been the only port in the European part of Russia to handle import alumina for the Russian smelters of RUSAL.
