On October 30, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC (SP SPb) and Marine Recruiting Agency LLC (SP SPb subsidiary) held an annual environmental campaign “Clean Island”. Supported by the Department for Municipal Improvement and Road Facilities of the Kirovsky District Administration and Landscape Company “Narvskoye”, the port employees planted 70 lime-trees on the Kanonersky Island’s Putilovskaya empankment.

Despite the holidays, some schoolchildren of the Secondary School No379 (Kirovsky District) joined the campaign. It was not the first case of joint participation. Last year, port employees and schoolchildren planted 50 trees on the embankment. All the trees naturalized well and pleased the residents in the spring.

The urban land improvement activities were held with respect of constraints caused by the pandemic. The official part was omitted with all the works conducted in compliance with safety measures; face masks, gloves, sanitizers. Yet, that could not hinder implementation of the plans or defuse a delight in contributing into a worthwhile cause. The activity participants were rewarded with high spirits, the more so as the weather was dry and warm with the sun breaking through the clouds now and again.

As a conclusion of the event, schoolchildren were presented by the port branded backpacks. Andrey Zubarev, Managing Director of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg, expressed his confidence in continuation of the new tradition to improve the Kanonersky Island with the today’s participants of the campaign to share their pride for involvement with their children as the years pass.

Vadim Bauman, head of the Department for Municipal Improvement and Road Facilities of the Kirovsky District Administration, thanked the port personnel and addressed the schoolchildren emphasizing that planting of trees, one of the key tasks of people, has already been done by them.
