The head of “Administration of sea port of Saint-Petersburg”, Petr Parinov, signed up the order on opening of the winter navigation of 2006-2007. Official decree was issued with the consideration of meteorological forecasts.
The port doesn’t stop functioning during winter time mainly due to the headquarters of icebreaker operations of the administration of the port of Saint-Petersburg. As in the past years piloting of the vessels will be supported by port and arctic icebreakers. All these icebreakers were repaired and are ready to start their work. It is expected to start using large ice breakers closer to the middle of January.
