During the period of January-March 2016 the turnover of OJSC Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg (SPSP) amounted to 1.73 mln tons of cargo, which is 13% less than during the same period of last year.
The volumes have changed due to reduction in scrap metals and mineral fertilizers. For example, the volumes of scrap metal have decreased by 42% down to 0.2 mln tonnes because the purchase prices of the customers in the Middle East countries went down, while the prices went up in the Russian market. The throughput of bulk mineral fertilizers has decreased by 89% down to 0.02 mln tons, as part of the cargo flow was deviated to the specialized terminals in Russia and the Baltic States.
At the same time, the volumes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals – major cargoflows of our company – have grown by 8% up to 0.645 mln tons and 1.7% up to 0.403 mln tons respectively due to the increase of steel and aluminum export by metallurgical plants of Russia.
Also, SPSP handled 24.7% more pellets – 0.041 mln tons, due to the expansion of selling market and client portfolio by SPSP’s customers. Within the covered period the volumes of handling of project cargoes, heavy-weight and oversized cargoes have increased by 7.3% up to 0.015 mln tons. Handling of these types of cargoes is the focal area for SPSP. The company has all the necessary equipment; state-of-the-art railway infrastructure can accept all kinds of railway transporters; vast storage areas can accomodate large cargo lots.
Volumes of Ro-Ro cargoes increased by 22.6% and amounted to 0.101 mln tonnes. Positive dynamics is caused by the growth of imports brought by ferry lines. The number of motor vehicles in the 1st quarter increased by 25% up to 7.7 thousand units due to growing export of Made in Russia cars.
Handling of grain cargoes has doubled up to 0.048 mln tons, as we managed to attract new cargoflows from CIS countries.
Within the considered period SPSP also handled agricultural cargoes, sawn wood, containers and the other cargoes.
In the whole, general cargo throughput decreased by 6% down to 1.49 mln tonnes; bulk cargoes – by 41% down to 0.24 mln tonnes. Exported cargoes amounted to 1.46 mln tonnes, imported cargoes – 0.27 mln tonnes. The share of exported cargoes in the total cargo structure is 84%, import is 16%.
