Within six months of 2013 the turnover of JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (“SP SPb”) amounted to 3.96 mln. tons, which is by 12% less than the same indicator of the previous year.
Such decrease was caused by reduction of handling volumes of the main cargo of the port-ferrous metals due to decrease of the demand at the European and USA markets.
In particular, in comparison with January-June of the last year handling volumes of ferrous metals decreased by 27% up to 1.36 mln. tons, non-ferrous metals decreased by 4%, up to 967 thousand tons. In general within six months of this year handling volumes of general cargoes in the port amounted to 2.95 mln. tons – by 18% less than within the same period of 2012.
Handling volumes of loose and bulk cargoes increased by 9% up to 1.01 mln. tons, among which over half – 558 thousand tons – mineral fertilizers, which exceeds by 58% the first half of the last year. Growth of indicators was caused by optimization of technology of handling process of such cargoes.
